The Opportunity

Our client is a large, highly regarded Australian company operating within a complex and growing environment. With continued investment across the business and Finance function, they are seeking an experienced Accounting Advisory Lead to join their Melbourne team.

Reporting to the Financial Controller, this is a broad technical accounting leadership role with responsibility for providing expert advice on complex accounting matters, while also overseeing several key areas of operational accounting and financial control.

You’ll become a trusted adviser across the organisation, working with senior stakeholders on commercial transactions and accounting matters, while supporting statutory reporting, audit and regulatory requirements. This is an ideal opportunity to step up from a Senior Accountant role, or to step out of professional services into a well-known corporate.

The Challenge

Key responsibilities will include:

• Acting as the key adviser on complex accounting matters and the application of AASB and IFRS
• Preparing technical accounting papers and assessments for transactions and business initiatives
• Reviewing commercial contracts and advising on the appropriate accounting treatment
• Overseeing key accounting areas including project accounting, intercompany, leases and treasury-related activities
• Supporting statutory reporting, external audit, tax compliance and regulatory reporting requirements
• Preparing papers for Board and governance forums and presenting on key accounting matters where required
• Monitoring emerging accounting standards and leading the implementation of relevant changes
• Leading and developing a team of four while driving improvements across accounting processes, controls and financial reporting

The Expertise

Please consider expressing interest in this position if you possess the following:

• CA/CPA qualification with 8+ years  experience
• Most likely you trained in Audit in a reputable firm, and have spent some time in a Group accounting or the FAAS / Technical accounting team in professional services
• Deep knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards and IFRS
• Experience preparing technical accounting position papers and advising on complex accounting matters
• Excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills, with the ability to translate technical accounting concepts into practical business advice
