The Opportunity
A newly created Group Accountant role exists within a privately owned investment group based in Melbourne. You will be the second internal finance hire, working closely with the Director of Finance to strengthen and grow the finance function across multiple ventures. This is a hands on, high impact position offering exposure to both operational finance and strategic projects, providing an excellent foundation for career progression in a fast growing, founder led environment.
The Challenge
Reporting to the Director of Finance, your key responsibilities will include the following:
- Prepare consolidated monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and lead month-end close processes
- Analyse financial performance across divisions, identifying trends, risks, and improvement opportunities
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial planning
- Manage general ledger, journal processing, and balance sheet reconciliations
- Oversee cashflow management, liquidity, and optimisation of working capital
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards (IFRS/AASB), statutory reporting, and regulatory obligations including BAS, GST, FBT, and payroll tax
- Provide financial insights, reporting, and commentary for the FD and CEO
- Partner with operational and commercial teams to support business decisions and strategic initiatives
- Oversee stock management, insurance policies, and supply chain processes
- Strengthen internal control frameworks, drive process improvements, and implement or upgrade financial systems
The Expertise
Please consider expressing interest in this position if you possess the following:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline
- CA/CPA qualified
- 5+ years’ experience in accounting, ideally within multi entity, group, or high growth environments
- Strong technical knowledge of IFRS/AASB standards and financial reporting processes
- Proven experience with month end close, consolidations, audit, and statutory reporting
- Experience in implementing or upgrading financial systems, ideally in start up or scaling businesses
- Strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities
- Proactive, collaborative, and capable of contributing to both operational and strategic finance initiatives
