As Payroll Manager, you will take ownership of a large, high-volume payroll function, leading an experienced team while ensuring payroll is delivered accurately, efficiently and in line with legislative requirements. This is a highly visible leadership role, partnering closely with Finance, HR and Operations to continuously improve payroll processes and enhance the employee experience.
This role is suited to a 2IC looking to step up or a Payroll Manager in a standalone role or leading a team of 1-3 who has experience with a payroll size of 700 – 1,200 in a multi-site industry.
The Challenge
Reporting to the Head of Finance, you will lead the end-to-end payroll function for a workforce of 1,000+ employees. Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading and developing the payroll team.
- Overseeing the accurate and timely processing of weekly and monthly payrolls.
- Ensuring compliance with all relevant payroll legislation, awards, enterprise agreements, superannuation, payroll tax and PAYG obligations.
- Managing month-end and year-end payroll reporting and reconciliations.
- Building strong relationships with HR, Finance and Operational leaders across the business.
- Identifying and implementing process improvements to increase efficiency, accuracy and compliance.
- Supporting payroll system enhancements, optimisation projects and future transformation initiatives.
- Acting as the senior escalation point for complex payroll matters.
- Delivering meaningful payroll reporting and insights to support business decision-making.
The Expertise
Please consider expressing interest in this position if you possess the following:
- Extensive end-to-end payroll management experience within a large, high-volume environment.
- Previous experience leading payroll teams and developing high-performing staff.
- Strong knowledge of Australian payroll legislation, awards, enterprise agreements, payroll tax and superannuation.
- Experience managing payroll for large, multi-site workforces, ideally within retail, hospitality, or another high-volume environment.
- A continuous improvement mindset with a track record of driving process optimisation.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to influence across all levels of the business.
- Strong systems capability, including exposure to major payroll platforms and advanced Excel.
- A proactive, hands-on leadership style with exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to delivering outstanding outcomes.
