The Opportunity
Our client is a nationally recognised retail organisation with a workforce of 1,000+ employees across Australia. Having built an exceptional reputation within their sector, they continue to invest heavily in their people, technology and operational excellence.
Due to continued growth, an opportunity has arisen for a Payroll Officer to join their high-performing team. This role will play a critical part in ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time while supporting the ongoing improvement of payroll processes and systems.
The position will suit a hands-on payroll officer who can operate effectively in a high-volume environment, while also assisting in process improvement and system optimisation. Ideally, you will have experience with processing a payroll of 500–1,000 in a multi-site environment.
The Challenge
Reporting to the Payroll Manager, your responsibilities will include:
- Processing end-to-end payroll for a large workforce across multiple locations.
- Ensuring payroll is processed accurately and within required deadlines.
- Maintaining employee payroll records, including new starters, terminations and employment changes.
- Interpreting awards, enterprise agreements and payroll legislation to ensure compliance.
- Managing payroll queries from employees and stakeholders in a timely and professional manner.
- Processing leave, superannuation, deductions and other payroll-related transactions.
- Assisting with payroll reconciliations and reporting requirements.
- Supporting month-end payroll activities and audit requests.
- Collaborating with HR and Finance to ensure payroll data integrity.
- Contributing to payroll process improvement initiatives and system enhancements.
The Expertise
Please consider expressing interest in this position if you possess the following:
- 3-5+ years in a full function Payroll Officer position
- Strong understanding of Australian payroll legislation, awards, superannuation and payroll compliance requirements.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience within retail, hospitality, franchise or other multi-site environments will be highly regarded.
- Intermediate to advanced Excel skills and confidence working with payroll systems.
- A proactive, team-oriented approach and willingness to contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
