The Opportunity
Our client is a well established education institution with a strong reputation across the Sydney market. They are seeking an experienced Finance Manager to lead core finance operations and support a period of systems and process improvement.
This is a broad leadership role overseeing financial control, reporting, compliance and systems, payroll, and tax, while managing a small team in a hands on environment.
The Challenge
Reporting into the CFO, your responsibilities will include:
- Oversee day to day accounting operations, ensuring accurate bookkeeping and a clean trial balance
- Lead month end and year end close, including full balance sheet reconciliations and preparation of management accounts
- Ensure statutory reporting is compliant with Australian Accounting
- Standards and regulatory requirements
- Provide oversight of payroll compliance, including PAYG, superannuation and payroll tax obligations
- Manage fee collection processes, including invoicing and tracking outstanding balances
- Lead the external audit process and maintain a strong internal control environment
- Oversee grant funding, ensuring accurate allocation and timely acquittal reporting
- Partner with FP&A to monitor budgets and investigate key variances
- Drive ERP system optimisation, including data migration and process improvements
- Act as the key point of contact for financial systems and reporting tools such as Power BI
- Lead, mentor and develop a small finance and payroll team
The Expertise
To be considered for this opportunity, you will bring:
- A degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline
- CA, CPA or ACA qualification
- Proven experience in a Finance Manager or Senior Accountant role within a complex environment
- Strong technical accounting knowledge and experience with statutory reporting requirements
- Hands on leadership style with the ability to manage both team and operational delivery
- Confident communication skills, with the ability to present financial insights to non finance stakeholder
